Pros and Cons of Wind Power

Wind energy is derived from the wind rotating large wind mills and their turbines. These turbines convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical power. Then a generator turns the mechanical power into electricity which can be used right then and there or be stored and used to give electricity to homes and other places. One turbine is able to power 1500 homes a year, and if the mill can produce more mega-watts then it can power up to 3300 homes a year.

Pros: Doesn’t emit greenhouse gases or cause atmospheric emissions that cause acid rain. Sustainable and renewable energy: as long as the sun shines and wind blows, we can harness that energy and turn it into power and it wont run out unlike fossil fuels. It is completely free and doesn’t cost anything to harness the energy besides the installation of the turbines. Has the potential to make hundreds of thousands of jobs by 2050.

Cons: Wind can fluctuate causing there to be less energy input which would mean less power is being produced. Creates noise and “visual pollution”.   Takes up land. Threat to birds.

  3. i think that there are more pros than cons, so i agree with this type of energy because it pollutes for sure less than the normal ways we use. Good post, short and very clear.

  4. I know that we are talking a lot about the environment and how people are trying to make it better, however, there are pros and cons to every decision we make, and I really like how you listed them instead of just saying this is what we should do. You gave everyone a full view of what they are going to get.

  5. I think that is very interesting that they are trying to find a way for the satellites to be outside the earths orbit and I also believe that satellites are good for persevering energy. - Da’Viona Bonner
